Smart Card or Mag Stripe? What's the difference?

The difference between Smart Cards and Mag Stripe Cards is simple. Smart Cards carry all of their account information, card balance and account number, security algorithm and specific location code, right there on the card. Your customer's money is actually on the card.Transactions or vends are processed by the individual card reading devices on each machine.None of the readers are connected to a PC or central computer, they are, in fact, miniature computers themselves. Smart card systems require no hard wiring and are extremely reliable as they do not rely on a central PC to operate.

Mag Stripe Cards, like smart cards, carry information, but not quite the same way Smart Cards do. Mag Stripe cards carry an account number along with a security code as well as a location code. They do not however carry the actual card balance. Each and every customer will carry a card which will indicate their account and any funds they have added to or subtracted from their account. That account is stored in a PC or central computer which all of the card reading devices and add value devices are wired to and must constantly communicate with. There is some risk that the PC or central computer could fail and that would render the system useless. That is the difference.

The Cyberwash Card System -Smart Card or Mag Stripe?

With the Cyberwash Card System you choose Smart Card or Mag Stripe! That's right, it does both. By combining the two technologies together, ESD brings you the best of both worlds. Primarily the card used is the Cyberwash Mag Stripe Card. The Opus Account Manager utilizes the latest in PC technology, with twin mirrored hot-swappable hard drives as well as an optional secondary networked Opus Account Manager PC, in the unlikely event it becomes disabled or malfunctions, you still can run your laundry with Cyberwash Smart Cards! You will always sleep well knowing your laundry can never be "out of order".

The Cyberwash Card System - How does it work?

In order to do a vend or to add value to an account, a customer will swipe their card in a machine and that machine will then immediately send a signal to the central computer, or what we call the Opus Account Manager PC. That signal includes the customer account number and the address of the machine to determine the vend price required or amount being added and determine the current balance of your customer's account.

Once the Opus Account Manager has determined if your customer is adding value to their account or if they have enough money to process a vend, it will then send out a signal to the machine to start as well as deduct the vend price from your customer's account and update the balance instantly! All of the financial information, value added to accounts, number of turns, amount collected and account used will remain in your Opus Account Manager PC automatically. All of this information remains in your database for report generation at a later date if so desired.

Market and promote your laundry by using timed daily special pricing. You can also use what we call "Class Specials" which can identify and provide discounts or bonuses for specific groups of customers like seniors or students!
